A Brief History

Oranjezicht means “View of Oranje”, derived from the view of the Oranje bastion of the Castle of Good Hope, South Africa's oldest military building built between 1666 and 1679 by the Dutch East India Company. The Castle's 5 bastions were named after the titles of the Dutch Prince of Orange: Leerdam, Buuren, Catzenellenbogen, Nassau and Oranje.

Peter van Breda was the first big landowner in the area at the foot of Lion’s Head in 1714. He started a garden around the 18^th Century and the upper valley properties were called Gardens after the vast gardens that he planted. The surrounding areas are still known by that name.

Popular Tourist Attractions

Oranjezicht houses are very close to the V&A Waterfront and other major tourist destinations like the Company Gardens, Table Mountain Nature Reserve and Greenmarket Square. It is the perfect spot to start hiking or mountain biking.
